The
Hidden Ireland walking tour of west Cork and south Kerry explores
the rich heritage of Ireland’s largest county; it’s
snug coastal towns, rocky headlands, miles of sandy beaches,
rugged mountains, gourmet restaurants, slow food producers,
it’s heroes and villains, humor, passion, stone circles,
and a language of their own.
Kerry & West Cork Map

7 Day Itinerary in brief
Days 1 & 2 Ballymaloe
Arrive Shannon or Cork and travel to the fertile plains
of East Cork. In the village of Shanagarry is Ballymaloe House
estate, home to the wonderful Allen family, our hosts for the next
two days. Their passion and hard work has inspired much of what
is currently happening in the Irish food revolution. We spend the
day walking along the south coast cliffs at Ballycotton overlooking
the Celtic Sea. In the afternoon we visit the workshops of some
local craftspeople.
Day 3 - Kinsale, Roscarberry & Schull
This morning we head west for a walking tour with a local historian
in the port town of Kinsale, the site in 1601 of the most famous
battle in Irish history. After lunch we head for Roscarberry and
a meeting with a local scholar to learn of the passion and purpose
of Michael Collins, the man that so affected Ireland’s battle
for independence and a great afternoon walking the beach at Ross
Carberry.
Day 4 - Cape Clear Island
A boat trip out to Cape Clear Island to explore on foot this island
which is home to 200 native Irish speakers. A gourmet picnic lunch
accompanies amazing views of the Cork coast and the Atlantic Ocean.
Day 5 - Mizen Head Peninsula
Mizen head is Ireland's most southerly point and today we explore
this long narrow finger of land. We will walk over places rich
in myth and legend where the dramatic sea and cliffs carry a strong
energy.
Day 6 & 7 - Beara Peninsula
A morning of easy exploration of the region's abundant megalithic
ruins before stopping at the local food emporium for a cheese tasting.
Then off to the tip of the wildest peninsula in Ireland, Beara
for an afternoon of walking near the Dursey Sound
Day 7 - Beara Peninsula & Kenmare
One last day to walk along the northern coast of the Beara Peninsula
and enjoy Ireland's scenery at its best. We head back into Kenmare
with time for a look into the many colourful shops. Farewell dinner
and some traditional music. Overnight Kenmare.
Day 8 - Departure
Transfer to Shannon for your flight home.
