The Hidden Ireland walking tour of the Burren, Aran Islands and Connemara explores the history, archaeology and nature of the Atlantic seaboard counties of Clare, Galway and Mayo.

Sample itinerary in brief
Day 1 Cliffs of Moher & The Burren, County Clare
Arrive and meet in Shannon. As an introduction to Ireland we tour through the Clare landscape of the Burren and Cliffs of Moher.
Day 2 – 3 Inis Mor Island, County Clare, Ireland
Around Galway Bay to take a short flight to Inis mor, the largest of the Aran Islands. These remote islands lie at the mouth of Galway Bay and have a unique landscape of bare limestone, thousands of miles of stone walls and tiny cultivated fields. An afternoon walk before settling in to the islands best guesthouse. Then it’s a full day to explore the remarkable depth of both human and natural history on this unique, stone-faced island.
Through thousands of years of habitation here, the interaction between islanders and their environment is one of the most dramatic anywhere in the world. We follow tiny pathways through a labyrinth of dry stone walls and walk along the great sea-cliffs to the ruin of the ancient fort, Dun Aengus.
Day 4 – 5 Connemara
Return to the mainland and head north through the blanket bogs and lakes of north Connemara into the mountainous area of the Twelve Bens. We take a good walk in the hills and hear stories of the rich heritage and history of this land as we stroll through fields with a renowned local expert. We spend the afternoon on Omey Island with a great walk along the strand.
Day 6 – 7 Clare Island and Croagh Patrick
Heading north into the wilds of County Mayo through glens steeped in history and folklore for an afternoon hike on offshore Clare Island. The archaeology and natural history here is outstanding and we explore it with a walk following the great sea cliffs which dominate the north western shore. A day to study the extraordinary heritage and ritual associated with Ireland’s most holy mountain, Croagh Patrick. There is an opportunity to make the pilgrimage to the summit, or other gentler walking options.
